Building the Studio

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

I am moving my studio from the office at work to my house. I have a room set up for the office already and I think the equipment will fit nicely in there. I don’t know how much more I will be able to put in there besides the recording equipment, but that is where all the microphones, stands, computers, mixers and speakers are going.

I want to create more of a homey feel to the studio. Make the studio feel more comfortable and laid back. The atmosphere of the house is very laid back so I’m sure the studio will fit well into the Zen of the house. Yeah I said it .. Zen. My babe is very into Zen and the whole world as one thing .. what? I don’t get it but I love her to death so what she wants she gets. Even if she is weird.

So I have this room that is about 10 X 10 and has a little inset on one of the walls where I guess a TV goes. Well that is where my studio TV is going anyway. There is cable in the room so running the internet out of there is not going to be a problem either. One of the walls is the perfect size for the blue screen that I just got off CraigsList.org so that is awesome. I can not wait to shoot some video in there on that thing. The only problem I see thus far is that there is no lighting in the room that is permanent. I will have to either install some lighting for the screen or get a few studio lights to set up in there that can be taken down when we are done shooting.

I keep getting offers to work on video for people and do their sound production so this will give me a ton of extra time being that the baby will be here in a few months. I can watch the boys and work in the studio every day. Good Times!!

Randomism

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

A while ago I added “Randomism” to my blog as a category. I thought it would be a funny word that would catch on eventually and it is. Everyone in my house is using it in the way wrong manner. I meant for it to mean just like is says random ism. Things that are random and really have no place in writing. Not that makes a whole lot of sense but it’s my word and I will say what I want cause it’s my blog. Damn it.

There should be a dictionary for miss-written terms. But as usual “No Results Found”! Someday someone will write this book and make a million dollars. You just wait and see!

Until then I will blog my misspelled terms and make people go HUH??

Memories

Friday, September 8th, 2006

Remember a few years ago when 911 happened? I hate to bring up bad stuff but I don’t mind talking a little about the memories I have of that fateful day. I was in the Army when we heard that someone had crashed a plane into the Pentagon. Actually let me back up a little. I was just getting ready to open up my arms room in the Army so it was very early in the morning, around 4am. As I was getting all the locks undone and the roster up to date one of my Sergeants ran up to me and asked if I had a TV in the arms room.

If you don’t know what an arms room is .. it is a room about 10 feet by 14 feet with 3 foot thick walls of concrete and steal. Even on the ceiling and floor. So not too much reception in there but I did have a TV non the less. The antenna was set outside the door every day when I went in to work. Not the greatest reception but it did the trick.

So I’m sitting in awe when it comes on the news that another plane had hit the World Trade Center. I’m like WTF is going on? So I tried to call my mom back home to see if she was awake and seeing all of this and the phone lines where so clogged up that I couldn’t get her on the line. That scared me a little because we are from the east coast and with her still living in that area .. well you know .. I was nervous.

By the time I thought of trying to get her online it was too late. We had the highest level of security placed on our platoon since we are the first to leave in a National Emergency. I got all the guys ready to draw out their weapons and it was a few days before I got to leave and get to calling my mom to see if she was ok.

Come to find out she was just as worried about me as I was about her. Everything worked out ok that week but it was one memory I don’t care to ponder on too often. Then again if it wasn’t for memories like this one where would we be as a race?
