Wheres Waldo?

Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Where on the web is Waldo? Type in “Waldo” to Google and you will see that out of like 11 million results you get quite a few from that book of pages that you have to find Waldo out of a picture of many people that look like Waldo. Does that remind you of anything else?

How about the World Wide Web? If your website is Waldo .. and you want people to find you in that huge crowd of other websites that look just like Waldo, how are you going to stand out? Are you just going to change your look a little so that you stand out just a bit or are you going to go for broke and really do it up right?

It’s easy to create a site that is like all the others and sells the same things and has just a bit of a twist of your own creation but are you really standing out to the masses? If the answer is no then you need to rethink what you are doing to get your site out there.

Blogging … every heard of that? Blogging is a way for you to get current information out about your site and your products or services, quick, fast and in a hurry. Blogging is becoming one of the most powerful tools that a website owner can have on their side. With all the ease of use and the freshness of the articles being written .. you are sure to feel the benefits of a good blog. Just ask Julie about the power of blogging. She is a Blog Queen.

Early Out

Friday, August 18th, 2006

Can I take an early out today? I want to get home and see whats for dinner. I’m starving. I need to get some food in me soon or I think I’m going to pass out. Not really but I have been working on finding some cool links to write about for hours now and I forgot to take lunch.

I seem to be getting sidetracked lately with searching the web and not finding what I am looking for. I usually use Google as a rule of thumb they seemed to have the best search results of any of the search engines or the other ones are pulling their results from Google anyway so why not just go straight to the source of information.

These kinds of long days make for short posts. I wanted to make everything I write about nice and full of content so that when I get indexed I get indexed for plenty of content. It seems that there are some search engines that like that sort of thing. So in a few minutes I am going to head home and come back tomorrow. Maybe I will go home and find some cool sites to write about but I bet I will just eat and hit the other blogs and get some writing done there.

There is a cool show on tonight anyway that I have been wanting to see so maybe that is in the agenda for this evening.

Long Day for Coding

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

I have been coding this new website all day trying to make it W3C Compliant. Getting your website and its HTML Validated is not an easy task if you start with a bunch of errors. This site that I am working on is one of my lesser posted on blogs and it shouldn’t have all the errors that is does but still the fact remains that I have been coding the site since 8am this morning and I went from “Not Able To Validate” to something like 12 errors. So I have made some serious headway.

I like using the W3C Validating Tools because I can easily see what is wrong with the site and fix it at a rather rapid pace. The Validator Tools that they have are very easy to use and they even give you descriptions about what it is in your code that is messy. You want your site to look good on all browsers and to shine when other people see it in other forms. Well then you want to use the Validator to make that happen.

There are still some tricks that you need to know about coding for browsers like Safari and some of the older IE browsers. But all in all if you use the validator and some general knowledge that you can find on Google and some of the other websites .. then you can make a pretty nice site and make it so that the site looks the same in all the browsers. I bet you didn’t even know that there was a difference did you? Well there is!

The different browsers that are available to many different users are generally reading the code of your site the same but they can display them a little differently depending on which one you use. On the MAC and Apple side of things you have the standard Safari Browser, if you buy a new PC from Dell you are going to get Internet Explorer standard with your system. You always have the option to download FireFox from Mozilla.com. Now there is a nifty browser. They boast that you can “Rediscover the web” with Fire Fox. I like FireFox a lot but I still use Safari since I am on my iMAC most of the time.

Try out W3C and see what you can do with your site.

August … Hotter Still

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

It is so hot today I am going to die. I found a really cool way to stay cool though. With all the Casinos like the MGM and the Mandalay Bay, you can get FREE air conditioning. Thats right .. the casinos are giving away FREE AC. I know this sounds too good to be true but it is true non the less.

You can turn up the air to about 80º in your house and head on over to any casino in Vegas for a night out in the fun of the gambling world and get all the air conditioning and free drinks you can handle. Then when the day is done .. head on home and crank the AC down to about 76º for your sleeping pleasure.

AC is a very necessary commodity in this kind of heat. Even when the temperature is only 90º outside here .. it feels like it is 150º. The air is so dry and the sun is beating the crap out of you every day. Not to nice if you are a sensitive skinned person. I can only take about 20 minutes in the sun then it’s time for me to head indoors for some nice, cold, enjoyable air conditioning.

If you live in Las Vegas or the Henderson area you have to know who and where to turn if you lose your AC. One cool site that I found today is this one .. Service Magic that lists the AC and Heating Companies from all around the valley. Don’t get left out in the cold or the heat .. research and find a good price and a good company.
